The perfect location for a relaxing day: a natural thermal bath fed by warm springs (37°C) trickling down a formation of rocks. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Terme di Saturnia, one of the secret gems of Southern Tuscany! These terme are free natural waterfalls just outside Saturnia, a small village in north-central Italy that has been inhabited since ancient times. This bath was already used at the time of the Romans, who thought that the terme were formed by Jupiter during a violent quarrel with Saturn: Jupiter threw lightning bolts that missed Saturn and caused the formations of the natural bath.
The water is not only welcoming hot: it comes from a source underground containing sulphur, carbon and calcium, as a consequence it is good for skin and for aching joints. The main waterfalls are not difficult to find: they are not far from the Saturnia main spa. Follow the street that from Scansano leads to Manciano: about 2 km before the village, you will find a thermal stream. After the stream, turn right and park your car (you can also get changed if you want to enjoy the warm waters). In 10 minutes by walk, you will reach the beautiful waterfalls.
The entry is free, as well as the car park. Make sure you have enough time to enjoy the bath and remember: if you arrive early enough, you can beat the crowds and enjoy some relaxing moments just with a small group of locals.
